When was the first New York fashion week?
What is New York Fashion Week?
Usually held in February and September every year, New York Fashion Week showcases global designers to buyers, the press and the general public at special invite-only or ticketed events.
NYFW is part of what is dubbed the 'Big 4': Paris, London and Milan Fashion Weeks and the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) created New York Fashion Week in 1993.
With Fashion Week Online, New York Fashion Week is formed with events and production companies IMG and FTL Moda.
When was the first New York Fashion Week?
The first NYFW was in 1943 and was created by the Press Director of the New York Dress Institute, Eleanor Lambert.
It was called 'Press Week' and was put on because industry players could not travel to Paris for French fashion shows during World War II.
After the success of the first New York Fashion Week, magazines like Vogue began to include American fashions.
